Description
The University Research Institute of Applied Linguistics at the University of Cadiz (ILA) is responsible for research, training, transfer and the provision of services related to language. Its researchers, technicians and collaborators strive to meet academic and social demands related to language and languages.
Objectives
Departments and laboratories
- Department of language industries: the study of terminology, neology and corpus and computational linguistics.
- Department of forensic linguistics: linguistic analysis for interpretation and disambiguation, plagiarism detection, authorship identification, identification of speakers, expert reports.
- Department of language consultancy: linguistic consultancy, linguistic and intercultural mediation, communicative strategies and types of communication.
- Department of clinical linguistics: language acquisition and processing, analysis of voice, speech and language disorders in adults and children, design of evaluation and rehabilitation protocols.
- Computational linguistics laboratory: design, analysis and processing of corpora, computer processing of language.
- Phonetics laboratory: data creation and collection for analysis of varieties and accents in various languages.
Services
- High resolution digitalisation: high quality digitalisation of all kinds of documents using a state-of-the-art zenith scanner.
- Language consultancy: correction of texts in Spanish and English, design of presentations for talks, lectures and debates.
- Forensic opinion: expert reports on spoken and written texts that may form part of a judicial procedure.
- Speech-language diagnosis and therapy: comprehensive service aimed at research on language, speech, voice and communication disorders and their diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation in children and adults.
